Robert W. Tull, Jr, CFP®
President, CEO, CCO
Robert W. Tull, Jr. is founder, president, and CEO of Tull Financial Group, Inc., in Chesapeake, Virginia. With more than 30 years of financial planning experience in Hampton Roads and beyond, he focuses on the areas of investment management, and retirement and estate planning. He also provides highly individualized personal and business advisory services.
Robin, as most know him, entered the financial planning profession after receiving an MBA with a concentration in finance from The University of Houston. He publishes a newsletter, The Quarterly Report, which addresses the investment climate and practical planning topics. While well-known locally as knowledgeable in financial matters, he is also recognized nationally as a former “Ask the Expert” on Quicken.com’s retirement website. Robin has also contributed to The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Reader’s Digest, CNNfn, SmartMoney Interactive, CBN Newswatch, and Financial Planning Magazine.
He has been a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner for over 30 years, having served on the national board of directors for the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP) in Denver, Colorado (1996-1998) and as past president of the local Hampton Roads chapter. He is also a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), which requires its members to sign a Fiduciary Oath.
Robin is extremely active in his community. A Rotarian for more than 25 years, he has served in various capacities including being honored as past president of the Rotary Club of Chesapeake, Virginia. He serves as Secretary on the Chesapeake Hospital Authority board for Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, and has also served on various committees, including chair positions for Investments, Compensation, and Strategy. Robin also holds the First Citizen Award in Chesapeake for 2019.
He was also a past chairman of the Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation Board of Directors having also served as finance chair and chairman of their Annual Gala. Robin is also a past Vice-Chair of the City of Chesapeake Other Post-Employment Benefits Board (OPEB), a past chairman of the Atlantic Shores Christian School Board, served on the Old Point National Bank Regional Advisory Board, and on the Alumni Board of Oral Roberts University. In 2018 he was asked to serve his alma mater, Oral Roberts University, as a Trustee.
He and his family currently attend RiverBend Church in Suffolk. Robin and his wife, Cathy, have four children — Andrew, Courtnay, Philip, and Victoria. Robin and Cathy are also proud to be new grandparents to their first grandchild, Aurora Grace, born in September 2018.

Amy is a combination of capability, caring, and sunny disposition that is instrumental in ensuring that our clients’ needs are met. Overseeing our Client Services Department, Amy works closely with Robin to maintain the high standard of service and proactivity that we strive to deliver to each client.
With almost 20 years of experience in financial services, she has a Certificate in Financial Planning, and holds the Registered Financial Consultant (RFC)® designation. As our Social Security and Medicare specialist, she has earned the National Social Security Advisor (NSSA) Certificate.
Amy is also one of the first Certified Senior Advisors (CSA)® in the Hampton Roads area, and she’s passionate about helping people age gracefully and transition through their later years as smoothly as possible. She also has extensive experience in assisting adults and children with special needs, helping them navigate government programs and planning for their financial future.
Amy enjoys spending time with her grandsons and helping others. She can often be found outside during nice weather, or inside cooking, watching movies, or reading. After relocating here from upstate New York, she appreciates the warmer weather – we are so thankful she made the trip!

P hil’s desire for serving people, especially young families, has been a valuable attribute to our team. Phil earned his master’s degree in Financial Planning from Kansas State University, where he also received his Personal Financial Planning Certificate and holds the Series 65 License. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Finance from Southeastern University where he also excelled as a student and collegiate athlete.
As an Associate Wealth Manager, Phil guides clients through creating detailed financial plans, setting up various accounts, navigating budgets and employee benefits, and providing investment research and portfolio support. These are just a few of the skills he performs as he assists our clients with thoughtfulness and detail, while also serving as a member of our Investment Committee.
In addition to serving our clients, Philip and his wife, Janaé – a professor at Old Dominion University – enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors, playing sports, and are passionate about serving their church and community.
Ellen is our Director of Investment Operations and an investment committee member. In her role, she oversees the investment policies of the firm and many of the firm’s operational processes. She works closely with Robin to develop investment strategies tailored to client’s unique circumstances and specializes in investment management. She is also a member of our information security team.
Prior to joining TFG, Ellen gained five years of experience at an asset management firm where her responsibilities included investment analysis, client service, portfolio management and administration, and marketing.
Ellen holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Virginia Tech, as well as her series 65 license. She is an Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor℠ and has passed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam series.
Ellen and her husband, Jake – a retired U.S. Navy EOD Officer, live in Chesapeake with their son and two dogs. They remain active in the EOD warrior community, and enjoy spending time with family and traveling. Ellen also serves her community as a member of the Chesapeake OPEB (Other Post Employment Benefits) Finance Board.
Ashley is the newest member of our Tull Financial Group team, hitting the ground running with ideas and completing all tasks sent her way. As the Executive Assistant to the CEO and Front Stage Administration, she is busy managing the team’s schedule, preparing for meetings, organizing events etc. Ashley’s experience in the fast-paced restaurant environment as well as in the professional world brings us her terrific customer service skills and wide variety of administration abilities.
In her spare time Ashley can be found chasing around with her two-year-old son, playing coed softball, or spending quality time with [high school sweetheart] husband and family. Raised in Deep Creek and a member of the United Methodist Church, she tries to take part in what she can to help her community. We enjoy having her effervescent personality here in the office and know our clients will, too.

Drew joined the team at Tull Financial Group in August of 2019. Since then, Drew’s passion for helping people through financial planning continues to positively impact our clients and our team.
Drew received his bachelor’s degrees in Finance, completing the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) Certification Education Track, and Management from Virginia Tech in December 2017. In March 2018, Drew passed the CFP® certification examination. By the end of 2020, Drew will have satisfied the experience requirement and will only have a few extra steps before becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional. In addition, Drew holds his Series 65 license. As someone who is continually seeking to learn, Drew is taking classes at Old Dominion University to expand his knowledge on tax planning.
As a Service Advisor, Drew guides clients through tax projections, financial plans, investment allocation questions, and account and money management needs. Drew is also a member of our Investment Committee and works to provide investment research and insight during our monthly Investment Committee meetings.
Outside of the office, Drew and his wife, Melissa – an administrator in Housing and Residence Life at Old Dominion University – live in the South Norfolk area and attend River Oak Church. They enjoy traveling to visit family and friends, trying new restaurants around town, and going to the beach with their dog, Ruby.
Dana is the meticulous and creative member of the Tull Financial Group team and is the one who cleans up any spills in the operations portion of the office. She can usually be found listening to music while working and exploring ways to reach out to clients by utilizing email marketing and the latest trends and technologies to better serve clients for their personal needs. But her main objective is daily operations in the office and daily virtual tasks.
Although she is a late learner in the financial field, Dana keeps up with her Old Dominion University master’s degree in Business Management and prior experience running a local Chesapeake business with her dad. She enjoys problem solving and finding ways to improve the daily functions in the office, especially the fine details in daily operations. Her study abroad in London also plays a part in making TFG stand out in the crowd.
In her pass time, Dana has many hobbies and is always keeping busy. She is active in the convention community and is occasionally seen making costumes and props at home. For the little time she is at home, Dana is also seen outside with a dog and her passion for helping local dogs in need. She enjoys puzzles, brain games, drawing, kickboxing, and traveling anywhere she can as often as she can with her partner.
